BRITISH Transport Police officers and revenue inspectors from train operator c2c have again targeted Stanford-le-Hope station in an operation to capture fare evaders.

Last month saw a first crackdown at the station, where work has halted on a major refurbishment.

Ticket barriers were removed and have not been replaced, offering easy access to the west and eastbound platforms.

On Tuesday evening the enforcement agencies returned and netted around 70- fare evaders.

A statement from British Transport Police said: "Fare evasion remains a constant challenge and we understand that it's very frustrating to law abiding fare paying passengers."
