WHILE visitors to Orsett Fire Station enjoyed its open day in baking heat this morning (Sunday, 28 June), crews from the station were on active duty saving a horse stuck in mud in Tilbury.

The rescue mission took place on Fort Road.

A statement from Essex Fire and Rescue says: "Firefighters were called to rescue a horse in Fort Road, Tilbury at 9:25am.

"On arrival, crews reported a horse was stuck up to its shoulders in the mud. Crews worked to rescue the horse by 11am."

Meanwhile, back at the station visitors were able to learn about the work of firefighters, watch members of Essex Fire & Rescue's cadet force take part in exercises, enjoy a barbecue and a number of stalls.

Thurrock Nub News popped in to sample the activies soon after the event started: https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?mibextid=wwXIfr&ref=watch_permalink&v=27475313502102979&rdid=xuRUunKjXOqAJBXM

There were also many visitors to Grays Fire station today, where the Essex Fire Museum opened its doors to visitors on one of its open days.
