Experts dealt with ordnance washed up at Tilbury

DISOPOSAL experts dealt with a piece of ordnance washed up by the side of the Thames close to Tilbury Fort this morning.

The item, believed to be an old shell, was first spotted last night (Saturday, 27 June) and reported to have been dealt with early this mnorning at low tide.

A spokesperson for the Port of London Authority confirmed that the shell had been spotted and was dealt with by the 'relevant authorities'.

Wartime munitions frequently wash up on the Thames riverside.

The local harbourmaster confirmed the area is now safe.
