TWO crews of on-call firefighters from Corringham left their homes and workplaces this evening to tackle a blaze close to the Stanhope Industrial Estate.

They arrived on Wharf Road after the alarm was raised about 6.30pm and dealt with a commercial vehicle that was on fire.

The fire sent up a huge plume of black smoke that was visible from many miles away.

Despite the best efforts of the firefighters the van was completely destroyed.

Crews reported that no-one was injured.
