By Nub News Reporter 23rd May 2026
THE Bata Heritage Centre in east Tilbury was honoured on Friday (22 May), to welcome Václav Bartuška, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the United Kingdom, accompanied by representatives from the Czech Embassy in London: Ms Aneta Kovařová (Third Secretary for Press and Public Diplomacy); Mr. Lukáš Zicha (Second Secretary and Vice Consul) and Mr Marek Masák.
The delegation spent three hours exploring the rich history of the former Bata community in East Tilbury.
Their visit included a detailed viewing of the Centre's display cabinets, a guided tour of the historic estate, and an exploration of the main factory building, formerly known as Building 13.
Following the tour, refreshments were served and the group attended a presentation delivered by Mick Pinion, offering further insight into the legacy of the Bata organisation and its lasting impact on the local community.
The Bata Heritage Centre extended its sincere appreciation to His Excellency Ambassador Bartuška and his colleagues for their visit and for their continued interest in preserving and celebrating the shared Czech British heritage of the Bata story.

Last month the Bata site hosted another of its popular open days: https://thurrock.nub.news/news/local-history/heritage-day-hailed-another-success-as-bata-memories-continue-to-draw-visitors-to-historic-borough-site-297135
