DESPITE picking up a debilitating injury a Thurrock teacher is close to completing his cycle marathon to raise funds for the Alzheimers's Society.

Last month Thurrock Nub News reported on the efforts of Dan Ayris as he set on on the 'Cycle for Dementia' challenge.

Dan, from Stanford-le-Hope, said: "The past few months have been tough for everyone, but coronavirus has hit those affected by dementia the hardest and continues to disrupt lives. So that's why I'm getting on my bike and taking on Cycle for Dementia."

Today (Tuesday, 13 April) Dan was able to complete his latest cycle trek and report that he is just 20 miles away from reaching his goal.

He says: "Today 17- 19 miles -230 miles complete.

"So sorry I missed a few days but as some of you may know my I pulled my hamstring.

"However, I was back on the bike today and I really enjoyed my ride. A quick update on how the money raised. We are now at £695! I am shocked at how much we have raised together and couldn't be more grateful. Thank you so much."

You can donate to the charity on behalf of Dan via this link.
