THE work of one of the senior members of Thurrock U3A, the community-based self help learning organisation for people who have completed their career or finished raising a family, has been recognised.

A large number of Thurrock U3A members nominated Dave Angus, who is Chair of Thurrock U3A, for the Thurrock Mayor's Covid Star Award for all the sterling work he did during lockdown to keep Thurrock U3A going.

In the past week the Mayor, Cllr Sue Shinnick was invited to attend to present Mr Angus with his certificate at a group meeting.

Thurrock U3A were unable to meet for 20 months but Mr Angus continually circulated Informal Information to members engaged on email, and posted copies to those not on email, to make them still feel part of the friendly organisation.

A statement from those members who nominated Mr Angus says: "Dave is supported by his Committee but as the new chair who took over in January 2020, it will be two years in January 2022 since his inauguration and we went into lockdown six weeks after his inauguration.

"Dave has worked hard to make changes and help bring Thurrock U3A into the 21st century and continues to do so with 50 new Members joining over the last few months which is a testament to his hard work.

"The Mayor paid thanks to Dave in what he had achieved to be given a Covid Star Award."
