CIVIC dignitaries including borough MP Jackie Doyle-Price and mayor Cllr James Halden, along with council leader Cllr Mark Coxshall attended today's opening of what will be a series of festive markets and events at the Lightship cafe in Grays this morning (Saturday, 2 December).

The event, organised by Anita and Harry Singh who run the cafe, was also attended by communities portfolio holder Cllr Qaisar Abbas.

It featured entertainment organised by Grays-based Creative Blast.

Throughout December there will be events including the markets, a Santa's Grotto, inflatable snow globe on Sundays, and Christmas Arts and Crafts on Saturdays.
