A NEW police officer serving in Grays has become something o f a pin-up boy for the Essex force's recruitment campaign.

As it searches to add new officers to its ranks, the force is talking to new recruits about what motivated them to join and Dan has stepped into the limelight:-

Dan says

I started working for Essex Police in the Force Control Room since January 2018 then I started my training to be an officer in July 2019.

What did you do before the police?

Before joining Essex police I was a car salesman.

Why did you join Essex Police?

I joined Essex Police as I genuinely wanted to make a difference to the lives of people affected by crime. You always see bad things in the news and think 'that's awful' but I wanted to actually do something about it, I wanted to help.

Which area of the county are you going to be serving?

I will be serving in Grays which will be interesting as we'll be working on the borders of London.

What have you enjoyed about your training?

I have enjoyed all aspects of the training so far but the part that stands out for me is bonding with your classmates. It's like joining a big family, everyone has the same motivations and are happy to help each other.

What's been your most memorable moment?

The whole time at college has been memorable – I don't think I can pinpoint one moment.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking of becoming a police officer?

I would say to anyone thinking of becoming a police officer to just do it! I made excuses for years such as 'I won't be able to pass the exams', 'I'm overweight' or 'I'll struggle with the learning' but they are just that, excuses. I stopped with the excuses and believed in myself. I can honestly say you will not regret joining up for whatever your reasons I can think of no job more rewarding.
