ABBOTS Hall Primary Academy in Corringham has opened its new library that has been created thanks to funding from by DP World London Gateway port.

The investment provides an enticing new library for the children to develop their love of reading and a new space as Abbots Hall grows in size. Soon it will accommodate up to 480 children.

In 2022 Abbots Hall Parent Teacher Association set their sights on supporting the school in developing a new library for their children.

"The PTA are always looking for ways to support the school. It's important that parents can see how their donations at events can help improve the school for all our children," says Sharyn Derrick, a member of the PTA.

Working in partnership with the headteacher, and through a donation of £15,000 from DP World, they were able to officially open the space yesterday (Monday, 17 February).

Children can enjoy a 'tree house' as part of the new library at Abbots Hall.

Sharyn added: "We are so very grateful to the team at DP World. The impact of their generous donation will be felt by families for many years to come. We know that reading is the cornerstone of children's education, and we are now able to provide them with a perfect space to enjoy it."

Emma Cowper, sustainability manager at DP World, said: "I am delighted that we have been able to support the development of Abbots Hall Primary Academy's new library, assisting the children in the brilliant education they are already receiving.

"We will continue to support local schools wherever we can, helping improve lives in our communities."

The expansion of the school will see two additional classes built and a new ICT suite - as well as the new, fully furnished library.
