Updated: Driver died as lorry overturned on A13
POLICE have confirmed the death of a man after a lorry overturned on the A13 just outside the Thurrock border.
The crash caused the closure of the eastbound carriageway with diversions put in place and has caused congestion throughout the morning (Thursday, August 25). The carriageway remained closed at 11.15, however work has now begun to recover the lorry.
The eastbound carriageway remains closed, with diversions through Rainham. There are delays on all local roads.
The driver, in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured.
The lorry overturned around 6am on the eastbound A13 at the Ferry Lane Interchange. London's Air Ambulance landed at the scene, which was also attended by London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service.
A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 06:09hrs on Thursday, 25 August to reports of an overturned lorry on the eastbound A13 at the Ferry Lane Interchange.
"A man aged in his 50s, who was driving the lorry, was pronounced dead at the scene. Offices are in the process of informing his next of kin.
"No other injuries were reported."
