THE driver of an HGV that toppled off a slip road on the A13 near Stanford-le-Hope escaped injury.

The accident happened yesterday evening (Friday, 26 August) and led to emergency teams from the police, fire and ambulance services attending – but the driver had escaped the vehicle by the time they arrived on scene on the London-bound carriageway near the Manorway roundabout.

A statement from Essex Fire and Rescue says: "We were called to an HGV on its side on London-bound A13 at 7.11pm.

"Four crews - Orsett, Rayleigh Weir and Basildon (two) – attended. The driver was safely out on arrival.

"Crews sanded the road and made the scene safe by 8.04pm."

A green cone marks the site of the demolished light post.

A police statement said: "We were notified of an overturned lorry on the A13 at the slip road of the A1014. No one was injured and no other vehicles were concerned.

"The slip road was closed while recovery took place and reopened just before midnight."

And an East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "An ambulance, operations manager and a vehicle from the Hazardous Area Response Team were sent to the scene. The diver of the lorry, an adult man, was assessed at the scene and did not require transportation to hospital."
