Carnival parade takes to the streets once more on a community day to remember

STANFORD and Corringham carnival's procession wound its way through the streets of the two town this afternoon.

On the way they were collecting funds for Little Havens Children's Hospice and the borough's Community First Responders. No funraisers proved more popular that veterans of the carnival, John and Stephen Fry in their colourful costumes.

Also walking the route was borough mayor Cllr James Halden, accompanied by Stanford West councillor Shane Hebb.

In addition to the procession an event was taking place in the town centre. The Corringham festaival included the Sutherland Pipes and Drums among those entertaining shoppers alongside a host of stalls, including one from the Corringham, Fobbing and Homesteads Forum which helped organise the event alongside Morrisons Community champion samantha Ralph.

And at the Mobile Field on Billet Lane in Stanford, the ultimate destination for the procession, there were children's fairground rides, more stalls and an exhibition ring for local performers, who included members of the local Strollercise group.

At the end of the day the canrnial organisers said: "Stanford and Corringham had a wonderful carnival day we would like to tell all the people who supported us a big thank you and we hope to see you all next year. Check out our Facebook page for photographs of the day."
