FOLLOWING on from a Nub News reader tip-off details of a significant fly-tipping area have been passed to the local authorities this evening.

Earlier today (Tuesday, 23 March) we reported on the response of Highways England and Thurrock Council to a feature on the debris and litter that lies either side of the A13 as it wends its way through Thurrock.

In the wake of our story we received a message about a prepared dumping ground at the junction of the A13 with the A1089 (Dock Approach Road) and visited it this evening.

Just before the eastbound carriageway of the A1089 meets the A13 an entrance has been cut into the small wooded area that acts as a small 'green lung' in the middle of major routes.

But far from an environmental haven, the site has been used as dumping ground, and possibly more, with large liquid containers hidden from sight.

Trees have been cut down to permit access. It is also possible that the area, which has some mesh fencing in place, has been used to trap small animals.

The affected area falls within the roads management of Highways England, who have pledged they will be mounting a clean-up in the area soon. Details of this site have now been passed to them - and also to Thurrock Council for investigation for tipping.
