A BOROUGH bus company says it will be doing it best to make modifications to some of its new fleet of buses after complaints from a local mum that she couldn't travel with her double buggy.

Kellie Walton spared no expense when purchasing a £1,500 double buggy for her small children but was shocked when she found it wouldn't fit easily onto a new style of bus brought into service on Thurrock routes by the Ensign Bus Company.

She took to social media to air her grievance and found a couple of other mums who had experienced the same problem, but the bus company says that now it is aware of the issue, it will be trying to find a solution.

Ensign Bus director Steve Newman says it was an unexpected and unforeseen problem as there is room for most buggies to be accommodated if they are folded up, but he says the firm will be looking at the difficulties faced by those with larger buggies.

He told Thurrock Nub News: "Buses don't legally require a specific buggy area and many companies just allow buggies unfolded on the bus in the wheelchair area if that's not being used.

"Kellie has clearly become used to using our older buses, but the fact that they have space for a double buggy is simply good fortune rather than they were designed for it.

"That said, now we are aware of the issue we will bring one into the workshop to see if the space can be increased without breaching dimensions or safety pole spacing that is laid out by law and have asked the lady in question to send us the dimensions of her buggy to see if it can be accommodated."
