LABOUR have taken both by-elections in Grays Town and Grays Riverside.

Amin Hoque was a comfortable winner in Grays Town, 182 ahead of Reform's John Pearson, wioth independent candidate Neil Speight third.

It was much closer in Grays Riverside where Labour's Jo Potter just beat off Reform and the Greens.

The result in Grays Town was

Amin Hoque (Labour) - 673

John Charles Pearson (Reform) - 491

Neil Speight (Independent) - 235

Joglur Rahman (Conservative) - 224

Rhea Sylvia Nathan (Green Party) - 160

Simon Lancaster (Liberal Democrats) - 34

1,823 votes were cast, this represents a turnout of 23.78 per cent

The result in Grays Riverside was

Jo Potter (Labour) - 389

Jason Mitchell (Reform) - 362

Pauline Weir (Green Party) - 354

Srikanth Panjala (Conservative) - 182

1,294 votes were cast, which is a turnout of 18.6 per cent.

The two Labour successes means the composition of the council is Reform 43, Labour 4, Conservative 2.
