Ellie highlights the benefits of apprenticeships

By Neil Speight 5th Feb 2020

A THURROCK student has highlighted the success of South Essex College's apprenticeships schemes to mark National Apprenticeship Week which runs until Friday (7 February).

The college has released a number of case studies about its current apprentice students plus educated people and businesses about the apprenticeship levy.

Ellie Edwards is a Business Administration Apprentice at housing and care provider Mears, working in its Thurrock office while also studying at the college.

She chose the apprentice route because she would rather be in a work based environment than a school or college. She said: "I love how friendly everyone is at the company, they make me feel really welcome."

Another student, James Beattie, is studying for his second apprenticeship qualification at Transit UK in Southend.

He originally completed a Level 2 Logistics course at the company and is now undertaking a Level 3 Team Leader apprenticeship to further improve his career prospects.

James works as a Freight Account Manager, looking after customers and building relationships with them. He said: "I found the role on the apprenticeship website. I'd never heard of logistics before, I didn't know what is was but it's actually quite interesting and good fun.
