EMERGENCY services have been in attendance through the early hours of the morning at an incident in Argent Street, Grays, after a man climbed to the top of a building and began making threats.

It is believed the incident was a domestic one that escalated. It has now ended through negotiation followed by an arrest, though the man is also being medically assessed after being taken into custody.

A statement issued around 3pm by Essex Police said: "We're very concerned for his welfare and we're working hard to bring the situation to a safe conclusion.

"Whilst emergency services deal with the incident, we're asking members of the public – no matter how well-meaning – to please stay away from the area and a road closure is now in place.

"And those living nearby may want to keep their windows closed.

"This will provide the best environment in which to bring the situation to the safest possible conclusion.

"We thank those living nearby for their patience and understanding at this time."

The incident was later resolved with a further statement adding: "The incident was thankfully resolved safely and a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault.

"At no stage was there any wider threat to the community."
