ESSEX Firefighters have told how they rescued a woman who had fallen off a rail station platform on her mobility scooter and was trapped in the tracks.

The incident happened at East Tilbury station last Friday morning.

A statement from Essex Fire & Rescue said: "Our control room and the Ambulance Service worked with Network Rail to ensure all trains had been stopped and the electricity had been isolated.

"Firefighters then worked with the Ambulance Service and British Transport Police to give first aid to the woman before moving her back onto the platform by 11.17am.

"She was left in the care of the Ambulance Service."
