UPDATED at conclusion: Emergency teams attended in numbers at Stanford-le-Hope incident. Man on roof throwing objects. Incident now concluded

MORE information has now emerged about the incident in Stanford-le-Hope this morning (Sunday, 5 May) involving a significant number of officers from Essex Police, Fire and Ambulance services in attendance at Parry Close.

The incident eventually ended around 1pm when a man was detained.

Emergency services started to arrive on the scene, which is a residential close with a number of garages, around in the early hours of the morning and officers have requested and been granted use of the nearby Homesteads Village Hall, suggesting they expecting a lengthy stay on the site.

Updated at 11:30am: A statement from Essex Police says:

"We are currently on scene of an ongoing incident in Parry Close, Stanford-le-Hope, in which a man was on the roof of a property.
"We have been joined by ambulance and fire colleagues as a precaution.
"The road is currently closed.
"We are treating it as an isolated incident and are working with partners at the scene." 

In addition, neighbours have reported that the alert was raised after a man was seen on the roof of a building and was throwing objects.

Thurrock Council Homesteads ward councillor Gary Byrne manages the hall and also lives nearby. He told Nub News: "Officers came and knocked on my door and asked if they could use the hall for refreshments and toilet facilites.

"They told me they could be on scene for some hours, though they not said what the incident entails.

"Obviously I am pleased to offer the facility and it is there to be used by the services throughout the day."

Police officers at the scene declined to comment on the nature of the incident, though there was not a tense atmosphere and in adjacent gardens children were playing, suggesting there is no danger to anyone in the locality.

They said senior officers were in attence at a point on the site.

A fire tender had deployed a number of hoses and a number of ambulance service incident vehicles were parked nearby.

At the conclusion of the incident Esex Police said: "Officers have arrested a man following an incident in Parry Close, Stanford-le-Hope.

"We were called to the location at around 1.45am on Sunday 5 May.

"We were joined by ambulance and fire colleagues, as a precaution, whilst a man was on the roof of a property for a short period of time.

"The man has now been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and ABH.

"He remains in custody for questioning.

"The road was closed whilst we dealt."
