A THURROCK man has appeared in court charged with multiple counts of theft from shops and breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order.

Prolific thief Kyle Sherwin, 38, of Dowland Close, Stanford-le-Hope, appeared at Colchester Magistrates' Court in the past week.

In March last year he was jailed for 28 months and banned from entering certain shops in Stanford-le-Hope and Southend for five years but breached that order on his release after serving part of his sentence.

On his latest court appearance he was charged with seven counts of shoplifting and seven counts of breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order made by Basildon Crown Court on 24 February 2024 which prevented him from entering three shops in Southend and Stanford-le-Hope.

All offences took place between 15 and 28 April. He was further charged with failing to provide a specimen when he was arrested on Tuesday 30 April.

Sherwin has been remanded into custody and will be sentenced at Basildon Crown Court at a later date.

At his trial last year Basildon Crown Court was told Sherwin was a prolific offender who had previously committed offences while on bail as well as during the term of a suspended sentence.

Sherwin was only free then because he had been given a 12-month suspended when he commited his crimes.

He has been remanded into custody and is due to be sentenced for his latest crimes in June.
