THE family of tragic dad David Millane have spoken briefly of the devastation his death from cancer has had on the family.

Mr Millane, whose daughter Grace was murdered in New Zealand, passed away on Sunday (15 November). He was diagnosed shortly after a trip to New Zealand to attend the trial for his daughter's killer last year.

In the wake of Grace's death friends and family created a social media website in her memory . Its aim is to collect handbags to donate to women who are victims of domestic violence.

The family and friends have been filling donated bags with essential and luxury items.

This evening, on the site, the family spoke for the first time about the impact and heartbreak of losing a husband, father and grandfather.

They said: ""Looking back on all of our memories together can be difficult.

"But the hardest ones are the new ones without you that just push us over the edge.

"Thank you for all your messages of condolence. We are heartbroken by the loss of David and he will be dearly missed.

"As you understand, now is a time for family. So we apologise if we don't respond to your message straight away."
