THE long-serving head of Grays' Belmont Castle Academy has paid tribute to staff, pupils and parents after leaving.

Mark Jones has seen many generation of children pass through the school on Parker Road, which he left at the end of the spring term.

He says: "Even though my last day at school was Thursday. 20 March, my official last day isn't until 14 April.

"I wanted to take this opportunity to say what an honour and a privilege it has been to lead such a fabulous school for the last 16 years.

"I will take away with me many, many happy memories.

"I must pay tribute to my wonderful team, many of whom work tirelessly for the good of the children, giving their time generously so as to ensure our young people have the best opportunities we can offer.

"Not every school does that, and not every team does that.

"I also appreciate the support I have received from our governing body, particularly Mr Smith - who has been a brilliant chair of governors.

"I would also like to thank our parents for unfailing support over the years.

"I am proud to say that the relationships between home and school have never been as strong as they are today.

"I will miss many things about the place we lovingly call BCA, but especially the children, who never seem to amaze me just how talented they can be when nurtured and developed to the full.

"I look forward to hearing about the continued success that will surely come in the years and months that follow."
