TWELVE teams of firefighters were deployed overnight to tackle a significant blaze on a commercial estate on London Road, West Thurrock.

The alarm was raised around 11.30 last night (Sunday, 22 March). Firefighters have worked hard overnight to extinguish the fire which affected three buildings on the estate close to the junction with Motherwell Road. At 6.20am it was reported there were three crews left at the incident who are cooling and monitoring hotspots.

A fire investigation into the cause will be carried out when it is safe to do so.

During the height of the incident a lot of toxic black smoke was coming from the incident and residents in the nearby area were advised to keep windows and doors shut.

London Road was shut for the remaining time while crews dealt with the blaze at its height but it is now open.

As I drove past I saw the fire and called the fire brigade... Luckily no casualties.
