FLAGS at civic memorials in Tilbury and Grays were lowered to half mast today (Monday, 16 May) as a mark of respect for a longstanding and active Royal British Legion member who died suddenly at the weekend.

The flags adjacent to the war memorials at Civic Square in Tilbury and High Street in Grays were used by the Legion to pay tribute to Rodney (aka Barney) Barnard-Hill, who was well known in Tilbury. Aged 72, he was a former Guardsman.
