CAMPAIGNERS have returned to Thurrock and more arrests were made at one of the borough's fuel terminals after a protest that ran from the early hours of this morning (Monday, 16 May) to later in the day.

The protest took place in an area which is subject to an injunction borough by Thurrock Council banning gatherings.

A statement from Essex Police says: "We have made a further seven arrests following reports of people gaining access to Navigator Terminals in Grays.

"We had received a call shortly after 11.05pm yesterday (Sunday, 15 May) reporting a group of people were on the site in Oliver Road.

"Officers attended and have been there throughout the morning.

"The site has now been cleared of people and a further seven people have been arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass.

"Earlier, officers arrested eight men and woman aged between 27 and 72 on suspicion of aggravated trespass.

"They all remain in custody.

"Policing is not anti-protest, but we must intervene where there is a risk to life or where there is a suspicion laws are being broken.

"We always work to resolve incidents such as these as safely and swiftly as possible so that our officers can get back to protecting and serving the people of Essex."

It has been reported the protesters are part of the Greenpeace movement who were attempting to delay or stop the arrival of a vessel carrying fuel from Russia.
