A PLAN has been put forward to convert retail storage units at one of East Tilbury's centrepiece buildings into four two bedroom flats.

The application for the conversion of the unused units is for Stanford House on Princess Margaret Road, which the applicant says are in a state of disrepair and require redevelopment to make them usable.

The units are accessed via a rear service yard and have been redundant for at least 17 years.

The internal layouts of the flats are arranged so that the living areas are located towards the

front of the dwellings to maximise the levels of daylight that the flats will receive.

It is proposed to provide 170sqm of communal outside amenity space to the front of the

proposed flats.

Stanford House currently comprises a mix of commercial and retail units on the ground floor and residential units above. It is a legacy of the development of the village by the BATA shoe company and was once a hotel and centerpiece of the iconic development.

Parking fears follow HMO application

A THURROCK Council highways officer says he sees potential problems regarding parking if an application in Grays to turn a home into a house of multiple occupancy is given the green light.

The application is to convert the property at 2, Oval Gardens, Grays, into a building where ten people will live.

Highways officer Julian Howes says: "On reflection having looked at this in more detail and taking planning considerations on board it would seem that there would potentially be an issue with parking migrating on to the highway associated with the development proposal.

"This would raise severe concerns as Oval Gardens already suffers from significant parking issues and this dwelling is located on a bend in the road.
