FOLLOWING heavy rain this morning (Friday, 4 February), the Environment Agency has taken the precaution of issuing a number of flood warnings across south and east Essex – including low-lying areas around Coalhouse Fort near East Tilbury.

A flood warning has been released by the Environment Agency covering the coastal area around the historic Coalhouse Fort and surrounding marshland where flooding is expected on roads and footpaths in the area.

The Environment Agency warned that there is a high chance of minor flooding around coastal roads and footpaths around the area.

They warn that the historic fort itself, car park and land surrounding it are at risk due to higher than average sea levels and add: "Take care on coastal roads and footpaths, and don't put yourself in unnecessary danger.

"We are monitoring the situation and not expecting it to escalate."
