PLANS for a new youth zone to be be built in Tilbury have received substantial support say its backers, who have now submitted a formal planning application.

There were initial reservations about the location of the site from attendees at public meetings as part of the consultation process but it won support from senior Thurrock Council leaders.

The project will be built on part of the Anchorfield, one of just two significant open spaces in the town.

Concern about the location was acknowledged in the submission to the council's planning department which says: "Overwhelmingly, the large majority of the comments were in favour of the scheme, with 84% of respondents stating they were in favour of the scheme with a proportion (24%) of respondents having some reservations around the location.

"Thirteen per cent of respondents were against the scheme entirely ."

The full application and the opportunity to comment can be found via this link.
