THE impact of the derailment of a freight train from the borough's London Gateway port yesterday (Friday, 23 December) continues to disrupt services on the c2c service in east London and Thurrock.
The GB Railfreight container train travelling from London Gateway, partially derailed at Barking. Great British Railway engineers were sent to the site and have been working with GB Railfreight to recover the freight train involved in the incident and assessing the damage caused to the rail infrastructure.
c2c services will be impacted until further notice, with trains not calling at Dagenham Dock, Rainham and Purfleet.
The train operator is advising all customers to check before they travel and allow extra time to complete their journey.
A GBR Anglia spokesperson said: "At around 13:10 on Friday, we received reports of a partial derailment of a freight train at Barking station. Working with the British Transport Police and emergency services, we can confirm that no one was injured in the incident.
"We're working closely with investigators from the Rail Accident Investigation Branch, and engineers are assessing any damage caused to the railway infrastructure.
"We are asking customers travelling via Barking station to continue to check before they travel as disruption at this time is expected to continue for the rest of the weekend. We are very sorry for the disruption being caused to those affected."
