Updated 3.30pm Tuesday: Gas leak closes busy borough road. It may be some time before it reopens to traffic as subcontractors need to move in and repairs 'set'

By Neil Speight 10th Nov 2020

EMERGENCY repairs of a leaking gas main on a busy Thurrock Road have now been completed, but it is not yet clear when Muckingford Road will reopen.

Thurrock Nub News reported earlier today (Tuesday, 10 November) to repair a gas leak outside homes on Muckingford Road between Chadwell St Mary and Linford.

The road was closed yesterday afternoon when engineers arrived at the scene.

A statement from Cadent this morning said: "Cadent is working to repair a suspected gas escape in Muckingford Road in Linford. Currently it's listed to be ongoing until November 17, though if they can finish before then, they will."

Cadebnt have now updated their message, saying: "They've finished the repair now, and are working to rearrange the reinstatement with subcontractors.

"This is expected to take several days and is dependent when the subcontractor can do the work and the process involves having to leave the reinstated road surface to fully 'set' or 'cure' before it can be fully reopened, once that is all OK the current traffic management will be lifted."
