Girls on the run - a virtual London Marathon on the streets of Thurrock

By Neil Speight 4th Oct 2020

A GROUP of nine runners are pounding the streets of Corringham and Stanford-le-Hope today (Sunday, 4 October) as they take part in a virtual London marathon.

They are running for a number of charities and are just some of thousands of people across the UK who are doing the same thing today – you can find out more about the virtual event to mark what would have been the 40th London marathon here.

The local runners set off this morning from Claire Hitchcock's home in Redlie Close at 8.30am from and will complete four laps around a circuit of Stanford and Corringham.

They are not all running together because of the rule of six and will be running in groups at different paces.

Some of the runners had been in training for the London Marathon which was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic and have decided to complete the virtual event.

Among them is Corringham teacher Veronique Surry-Kaise who was featured on Nub News earlier this year as she completed her own individual Ironman triathlon.
