THURROCK residents are being encouraged to donate and collect reusable leftover paint through a new paint reuse scheme at the Linford Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC).

The scheme, launched in partnership with Community RePaint, aims to reduce waste, support reuse, and help residents make use of good-quality leftover paint that would otherwise be thrown away.

Residents visiting the HWRC can now donate usable leftover paint or collect paint free of charge for home decorating or community projects. A dedicated paint reuse area has been created on site with clear signage to help residents access the scheme safely and easily.

Community RePaint is a UK-wide paint reuse network which works with local authorities and waste management partners to redistribute surplus paint within local communities. Each year, millions of litres of usable paint go to waste across the UK despite much of it still being suitable for reuse.

Cllr Tom Kelly, Thurrock Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Environment, said: "Too much usable paint is thrown away every year, so we're pleased to introduce this new reuse scheme at Linford HWRC.

"This initiative gives residents a simple way to donate leftover paint or pick up paint free of charge for DIY and community projects. It supports our commitment to reducing waste, increasing reuse, and helping residents make more sustainable choices."

Residents and non-residents can donate paint that is:

  • in usable condition
  • in sealed or resealable containers
  • clearly labelled where possible

Paint collected through the scheme may be used for decorating homes, charities, schools, community spaces and other local projects.
