THOUGH the first stage of a campaign proved successful, two youngsters and their mum in Grays are to continue their fight to improve access during the covid pandemic to their local library.

Thurrock Nub News reported in August on the initiative by nine-year-old Polly Cornelius for Thurrock Council to reopen Blackshots library.

Within a short time the idea gained momentum with a successful online petition containing more than 600 signatures and the council delighted Polly, brother Toby and mum Claire by announcing a date for the library to open.

Borough Mayor Cllr Terry Piccolo paid tribute to the family by visiting them and issuing certificates of civic commendation.

The library opened today (Tuesday, 29 September) but there were big queues and people who limited in accessing the building.

Claire says the opening was a good start but the fact that so many people turned up shows how much of an asset it is to the local community.

The family is hoping the council will now look at increasing opening times and has asked people to show their further support by adding to the petition which is [L] https://www.change.org/p/thurrock-council-blackshots-library-reopening/u/27805395 [L+]online here.[L].
