Speed bumps planned for busy road close to school

THURROCK Council is planning to install speed-restricting bumps on a road approaching one of the the borough's secondary schools.

Over recent months there has been some public disquiet over speeding on Butts Lane in Stanford-le-Hope, particularly as the road has frequently been used as one-way diversion for traffic from across the borough heading to the civic tip at Linford - though the scheme has not always worked as well as might have been expected.

One of the problems has been a significant number of vehicles reportedly speeding on Butts Lane, prompting residents to complain.

In response the council said it would investigate the issue and this week announced plans to put in seven strips of 'temporary' speed bumps from the Butts Lane junction with London Road, along 400 yards towards St Clere's School.

Residents are invited to comment on the full plan (which can be viewed here) by emailing [email protected] by no later than 23 October.
