Hammer-wielding raider struck at hair salon, threatening customers and staff

A POPULAR Thurrock hairdressing salon has been robbed by a hammer-wielding man who threatened staff and customers.

The incident happened yesterday (Friday, 17 April) afternoon at Classic Hair on Montreal Road in Tilbury, which is renowned locally for its work helping good causes.

The man walked into the salon's reception area, threatened staff and fled the store with the cash till.

A statement from Essex police says: "We are appealing for witnesses, information and dashcam footage following the incident.

"A suspect with an offensive weapon entered the premises at about 3.20pm before taking a till containing roughly £300 and leaving the area.

"We are following several lines of enquiry to identify this suspect, and we want to hear from anyone that can assist our enquiries.

"Please get in touch quoting incident 748 of Friday 17 April. You can let us know by submitting a report on our website where you can use our online Live Chat service available Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) between 10am-9pm.

Shops on Montreal Road are no stranger to crime.

A vehicle was used to ram raid this store on Montreal Road last year.

In September last year the Montreal Food and Wine store was badly damaged in a ram raid attack.
