Harvey is college's top student

A YOUNG man from Corringham has been honoured as the student of the year when USP College's Seevic campus hosted its annual student awards ceremony.

The achievements of more than 30 students was recognised and the top honour went to Thurrock student Harvey Hayward.

The college held the awards evening on campus for the first time since 2019 and a spokesperson for the college said: "There was a great atmosphere throughout the evening where students celebrated their achievements with friends and family.

"The college's performing arts students were also on hand to lift spirits and provide entertainment throughout the evening with a range of performances from Tayla Mason, Salome Law, Brooke Pinnock, Saff Smith-Rawlings, George Holmes and Jessica Humphreys

Students were nominated for awards by their teachers and peers for demonstrating the college's values.There were also a number of very special awards such as The Young Professional Award, recognising entrepreneurial spirit, Learner Voice Award, for valuable contribution to the Student Union and Students' Student of the Year Award, for the hard work and determination that students put into their studies from their peers point of view.

Principal and CEO, Dan Pearson and Gordon Haines MBE JP ACII, Chair of Corporation presented the students with their awards.

18-year-old Harvey was presented with the top award of the evening, the Student of the Year 2022 Award. He received his award along with a £100 Amazon Gift Voucher and said: "USP College has provided me with a massive amount of resources, materials and support during my time at college."

Harvey's achievements at college were recognised by its senior management team out of all the award winners of the night. Harvey was chosen because of his resilience; he has had a tough couple of years but did not let this stop him from working hard and becoming an inspiration to fellow students and teachers alike.

Harvey who studied A-level sociology, English literature and law added: "I feel honoured to have been nominated for this award. My favourite part of being a student at the College is having the support from my friendly teachers."

Harvey now starts working to take his next steps in order to become a lawyer, his dream career.
