ROUTES through Thurrock may be disrupted by an extraordinarily large load leaving from the Port of Tilbury tomorrow evening (Friday, 11 September).

At around 7pm an electricity transformer, the size of a house will be transported, from Tilbury to Beddington sub station in South London.

The delivery will be separated into two halves and the transformer will be moved by a specialist haulage transport team on a specially designed 247 tonne lorry, which is 65.5m in length and 5.15 metres wide.

The lorry will leave Tilbury Docks and head onto the A1089 (Dock Road). On Dock Road, no other traffic will be permitted on the bridge at the same time and the transit speed of the abnormal transformer load must be limited to a maximum of 10mph while on the bridge. It will then head onto the A13, the M25 until Junction 21A, where the lorry will and exit onto the A405.

It will then head onto the A41, where the lorry will end the first half of the journey. The lorry will take a break here and will remain safely in place in a layby, until a second police escort can arrive on 13 September around 7am.

At this time the lorry will re-join the A41 and travel onto the M25, at Junction 15 the lorry will join the M4, take junction 4B, continue onto the M25. The lorry will then exit at Junction 6 onto the A22, the A23, onto Beddington farm Road, Coomber Way, the B272 and is expected to arrive at the Beddington substation at about 12:30pm on 13 September.

The lorry will have a police escort throughout.
