VULNERABLE residents in Thurrock have been gifted festive hampers containing food and essentials for the Christmas period, thanks to Thurrock Council and several of its housing contractors, sub-contractors and consultants.

The council teamed up with contractors and sub-contractors Mears, Wates Living Space, Aaron Services, RGE Services, Highview Ltd and Langley plus consultants Pellings and Potter Raper across its housing service and capital Works programme to provide festive hampers for 20 residents who are most in need.

Residents were identified by the council's Financial Inclusion Officers, who provide advice and support on benefits, debt and budgeting.

The hampers include apple and mince pies, a selection box, tins of fruit, custard, mixed vegetables, potatoes, a £10 voucher for meat and more. These were delivered on Thursday (12 December) to ensure residents could enjoy them over Christmas.

Cllr Mark Hooper

Cllr Mark Hooper, cabinet member for health and well-being, helped put the finishing touches to the festive hampers.

He said: "It is heartening to see our teams and housing contractors who work across our housing service, including repairs and our capital works programme, and consultancy firms who we have been working with on projects, come together for the third year running to help 20 of our most vulnerable residents.

"This collaborative work can make all the difference to someone who is facing a challenging or difficult Christmas. When we procure our contractors and consultants, they not only provide the best possible service for our residents but look to complement their work and help local communities benefit from social value opportunities.

"Thank you to all those who have contributed towards and helped deliver the festive hampers."
