Helps for Halloween - follow Jannine's spooky trail

THRILL seekers and spook watchers in Stanford-le-Hope and Corringham have been given a step-by-step guide to where to see the most haunting experiences for this Halloween weekend.

Halloween enthusiast Jannine Helps has put together a map showing many of the decorated houses and sites in the town and surrounding area.

She says: "This map has been created from the amazing Stanford-le-Hope community who have let me know roads with decorated houses. You may need to cross-reference a couple of roads with GoogleMaps because I had to zoom out a bit to make sure I can fit the whole of SLH on A4.

"The map isn't an "official event" - it's something I've been creating in my spare time between work. This isn't a structured organised event, it's basically there to help families work where they can walk and get the most out of their Halloween. I hope people enjoy it and respect other people as they go along their way.

"I love Halloween. I love decorating. I love living in Stanford and I love seeing children, families and friends laughing and feeling happy.

"If there are signs requesting no Tricker or Treaters or no lights / decorations, please do not knock. Halloween isn't everyone's cup of pumpkin spice and we need to respect that.

"Some houses are accepting Trick or Treaters at their door and others are leaving sweets outside. Last year there were some comments where people were using the map to do their own little "Halloween Hunt" and at every decorated house, the children get some sweets so there is no knocking on doors. I thought this was a fantastic idea so thought I'd mention it this year.

"We are all still feeling the effects of the Pandemic in one way or another. Please be mindful to those who are still social distancing and/or wearing masks.

"So now that's all out of the way - There are some "extra spooky" areas highlighted in red and marked with a castle:

  • The Penny Lane Pumpkin Patch - Penny Lane - Collecting for McMillan
  • Howloweeen Haunted House - Howgates Estates Agents - King Street - A variety of activities beginning at 3pm
  • The New Courthouse - King Street - Giving out treats to children in fancy dress
  • GW Traditional Treats Ltd - Prospect Avenue - Freshly popped popcorn & candy floss after 6pm
  • And not forgetting... me! Hearsall Avenue (near Coombe Rise) is my road. This year, I will be following my own map to look at all the decorations.

As the online image is slightly blurred, here is the bite-sized breakdown of roads to visit in sequence as shown on the map.
