Home permission granted at third time of asking

A LONG-running bid to build a family home on a plot of land in Grays has finally secured planning permission after two previous applications were turned down.
The proposal for a three-bedroom house beside Fairway in Stifford Clays has been approved by Thurrock Council officers, eight months after the latest application was submitted.
Planning documents state the land has been owned by the same family for generations and that the new property is intended to provide a family home. The approved plans include off-street parking and private garden space.
The site has a lengthy planning history. A previous scheme for a three-bedroom detached house was refused in March 2025 after officers concluded it would amount to overdevelopment, provide insufficient outdoor space and appear out of keeping with the surrounding street scene.
A revised application for an end-of-terrace home was also rejected in September 2025 following concerns over environmental requirements and mitigation measures.
However, the latest proposal was redesigned to address the issues raised by planning officers. The application said the house had been amended to better reflect neighbouring properties and the character of the area.
Highways officers initially asked for additional information regarding access, visibility and parking arrangements before ultimately raising no objections to the scheme.
Planning permission has now been granted, paving the way for development to begin. Work must start within the next three years or the consent will expire.
