KIND-hearted volunteers, who dedicate their time and effort to help patients and hospital staff across the region have marked Volunteers' Week with a celebratory afternoon tea.

More than 830 volunteers donate over 160,000 hours in a variety of roles across the Trust's three main hospital sites in Southend, Basildon and Broomfield every year.

Roles include helping patients during mealtimes, being a friendly face providing directions to patients and driving them to and from appointments.

Volunteers also help in the Trust's charity shops, and support ward staff by running samples and documents between departments.

Jonathan Wright, Senior Voluntary Services Manager at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, said: "We have a wonderful group of people who help and support our amazing medical and administration staff in delivering the highest standards of care.

"Whether it's a morning or afternoon each week, or several sessions throughout the week, they give their time with dedication, compassion, and a genuine commitment to helping others. We are immensely grateful for their invaluable contributions and the real, positive impact they make on staff, patients, and visitors every single day."

Among the many volunteers is Joan Clayton, from Benfleet, who volunteers in the Hadleigh Charity Shop. She said: "I really love volunteering for the Trust.
