Incident at Tilbury station. Police confirm a member of staff was assaulted and seriously injured

POLICE officers were deployed at Tilbury rail station following an attack on a member of staf there that happened just before 5pm today (Wednesday, 13 July).

A statement from British Transport Police says: "We were called at 4.54pm to reports that a member of rail staff had been seriously assaulted at Tilbury Town station.

"They have been taken to hospital and their injuries are believed to be serious, but not life-threatening.

"Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 with reference 401 of 13 July.

"Alternatively they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

During the incident police officers cordoned off part of the station area until investigations and forensic examinations were completed.
