NINETEEN people are due to appear in court to be charged in connection with the disruption of roads in West Thurrock last year.

On a day of action in the borough by Insulate Britain campaigners on the morning of 13 October police had to deal with protests on a number of roads around the M25.

Police were called to deal with the disruption, with a significant gathering happening on St Clements Way.

A statement by police says: "We arrived and worked quickly to clear the road and a number of people were arrested.

"Officers have worked closely with the Crown Prosecution Service as part of the ongoing investigation into the disruption in Essex and in other counties and have now received authorisation to charge 19 people with obstruction of the highway.

"The group have been requisitioned to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on 26 May."
