Is there a new twist in tortuous search for children's services director?

THE long-running and controversial saga of the appointment of a new director of children's services at Thurrock Council could take a new twist.

Councillors will meet on Wednesday at an extraordinary meeting and have been advised they will hear of a new appointment, following selection of a candidate from a shortlist of two.

However, sources within the council have told Thurrock NubNews that both candidates withdrew before coming before the selection panel.

We have asked the council for clarification and - if it is true - what will happen?

The council's response was simply: "The position will be reported to the Extraordinary Council meeting taking place this Wednesday."
