A host of free creative tasters and experiences are coming to Thurrock to give people the chance to give something new a go in a programme designed by the local community.

Start Thurrock has organised Green Light, a programme of events developed by people living and working locally.

As part of their planning, the Start Thurrock team have been in touch regularly with people across Thurrock who have an interest in supporting and championing their community, and the opinions and thoughts gathered have helped shape what is on offer.

Some activities, such as puppetry, musical theatre shows, drama productions and lantern making workshops are perfect for families and children.

The programme also has things for adults and teenagers offering everything from a masterclass in smartphone portrait photography to drama improvisation and sign making.

There is also a chance to try things like zine making – where participants can create their own mini-publications, a silk batik workshop where patterns are painted on beautiful silk and even talkaoke, where people can join in a conversation about the future of arts in the area and more.

The programme also boasts talented Thurrock-based artists who have been given a platform to inspire others and showcase their talents.

Katie Beadle, Creative Director of Start Thurrock, said: "We are all incredibly excited about the artists we have organised for Green Light and hope as many people as possible will sign up to try something different."

"The programme has been shaped by what residents have told us they want to see – it's designed by the people of Thurrock for the people of Thurrock.

"So, I'd urge everyone to look at the activities to see if there's something that interests you.

"You might try something once and discover a new passion."

Start Thurrock was formed when The Tilbury on the Thames Trust, supported by The Port of Tilbury, in partnership with Thurrock CVS, The Royal Opera House, Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions CIC and Thurrock Council successfully secured funding from Arts Council England's Creative People and Places National Portfolio 2022-25 programme.
