Load was too tall for A13 bridges and operation to rescue driver and lorry followed

POLICE officers had to manage a turnaround by a lorry driver after his load struck a bridge on the A13.

The incident happened on Wednesday, 31 January, just after midday, when the driver of a lorry loaded with a large packing case realised he would be unable to get under the bridge approaching the Five Bells junction.

The driver halted and considerable congestion built up.

A police statement says: "We were called to reports a lorry had been in collision with a bridge on the A13 near Pitsea at around 12.40pm on 31 January.

"Officers attended and escorted the vehicle safely from the area."
