It's a special day as David signs up to serve in borough

GRAYS has a new Special Constable after the latest recruits to the Essex Police Force received their warrant cards.

David Kirby is one of eight officers who read an oath to serve at an attestation ceremony after completing their training.

Superintendent Cat Barrie, who heads Essex's Special Constabulary, said: "I want to thank all the Special Constables for their hard work and determination. Seven of them were on different intakes earlier this year until the Government lockdown.

"With our help and with some changes, they were able to continue with their studies and they proudly received their warrant cards.

"One of the Special Constables has rejoined us after previously volunteering with Essex Police. The force would like to welcome him back to our family.

"We are determined to get Special Constables trained with the right procedures in place so that they are able to help you and catch criminals.

"We're accepting applications – so if you're looking for a new challenge or want to rejoin just like Paul – we'd be happy to have you on board."

If you would like to learn new skills, gain more confidence and make a positive change to your community, apply to become a Special Constable here.
