THERE were happy and emotional scenes in Stifford Clays this evening (Wednesday, 23 March) when a borough youngster bravely sacrificed his much-loved and important long locks for a great cause.

Hero of the hour at Stifford Barbers on Crammavill Street was Jayden Frost, 10, who was shorn of his treasured long hair but raised £750 for the Evelina London Children's Charity – and hopefully the tally will rise.

Jayden was inspired to have his hair cut by the plight of his cousin Thomas, as mum Rachel Bibby-Fros explained: "Thomas has kidney failure. His has just crept into stage five and over the next few months we should hopefully be given a plan of treatment going forward.

"Jayden has been point blank refusing a hair cut for quite some time! He was diagnosed with autism back in June and uses his hair to hide when he feels uncomfortable. He is very anxious about having his hair cut because it's change, its different .... but he said he will get it cut if he could raise money for Thomas' hospital."

Thomas was there today to actually ake the vital cut!

And Jayden added: "Everyone keeps saying about me having my hair cut but it makes me really anxious because I like to hide behind it in a way. But I have decided I will have it done but make it worthwhile and raise money for the Evelina Children's Hospital because they have done so much for Thomas."

If you would like to support Jayden's efforts, you can do so via his fundraising page here.

Rachel was immensely proud after the event and told Nub News this evening: "The guys at Stifford barbers didn't charge for his haircut and also gave him a tub of gel to do his hair with. They were absolutely brilliant would obviously like to say a massive thank-you to them and everyone who has donated he has currently raised £750."
