A MOTHER and daughter team behind a new business in Thurrock are hoping to offer up to 50 jobs in the care sector.

Gladys Ofori and Dorcas Afful have recently launched their new home care business, Home Instead Thurrock.

Gladys, a registered nurse, has had a successful career working in many different care settings including hospitals, A & E departments, community rehabilitation, and nursing homes.

She says: "Caring for others is what I have always done, I just love it, it is part of me. When I found out about Home Instead, I knew that it was a fantastic opportunity, a path I definitely wanted to follow.

"When I was working in the hospitals, I witnessed first-hand the high-quality post-operation care provided to Home Instead clients which is so important in supporting them in their transition back to their normal lives.

"I am so thrilled to be able to provide our wonderful care alongside Dorcas, helping older people in our local community stay safe and well in the comfort of their own homes, it is the best place where people want to be."

Dorcas has followed in her mother's caring footsteps, beginning her career in a nursing home and going on to work as a domiciliary carer in the community. After studying at University, she worked at Basildon & Thurrock Hospital as a diagnostic radiographer, but knew that she wanted a caring career in the long term. Now the pair are working together, doing what they love.

Dorcas told Thurrock Nub News: "My mother and I are so excited to launch our own company. It is a fantastic business opportunity which enables us the opportunity to do what we love- care for people. We are excited to bring Home Instead's at-home care services to the local area, providing great support for local seniors, especially during this difficult and uncertain period.

"We are really proud to be able to offer over 50 jobs to local people. Caregivers don't need to have a background in care, but kind-hearted and nurturing individuals could thrive in the role, full and on-going training is provided. It really is so rewarding; mum and I know!"

Home Instead specialises in companionship-led care services for the elderly population, which can be easily personalised and tailored to the individual. With services ranging from home help and companionship, the company ensures a minimum visit time of one hour from the same caregiver, meaning seniors receive quality care and companionship from familiar faces.
